Borrowed from Classical Persian حديث (hadīs), from Arabic حَدِيث (ḥadīṯ, “story, news”). Cognate with Assamese হাদিছ (hadis), Hindi हदीस (hadīs), Gujarati હદીસ (hadīs), Punjabi ਹਦੀਸ (hadīs).
