Reborrowed from Thai เวียง (wiiang), from Old Khmer vāṅ, vāṅṅ, vaṅ (“enclosure, citadel, stronghold, palace”), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *wa(a)ŋ (“enclosure”). Doublet of វាំង (vĕəng, “to enclose, citadel, place”).
