Etymology

First attested in the Dictionnaire coréen-français (韓佛字典 / 한불자전), 1880, as Early Modern Korean 깃겁다. Likely from 기ᇧ- (kìsk-, to rejoice) +‎ -어ᇦ- (-eW-, adjectivizer), although no such form is attested within the Middle Korean corpus. Compare 즐겁다 (jeulgeopda).
