-számra (adverb-forming suffix)

1. In a number or mass corresponding to a multiple of the round number defined by the base word. Usually used with round numbers, such as száz (“hundred”), ezer (“thousand”), etc.

   Az emberek százszámra zúdultak be az üzletekbe. ― People flocked to the shops by the hundreds.

2. Per unit of quantity, measure or time specified in the base word.

   Darabszámra fizetik a munkámat. ― My work is paid by the piece.

3. In a large amount, by the unit of measure expressed in the base word.

   Zsákszámra veszik a lisztet. ― They buy the flour by the bag.

   A cikk megjelenése után tucatszámra kaptuk a leveleket. ― After the publication of the article, we received letters by the dozen.
