Proper noun

Odontarrhena f

  1. A taxonomic genus within the family Brassicaceae – numerous flowering plants.

Usage notes

  • Originally a separate genus, then amalgamated into Alyssum, but more recently reseperated, based on morphological and molecular evidence.
  • Consequently, Odontarrhena species are typically still known by synonyms placing them in Alyssum.
  • Some species are nickel hyperaccumulators (capable of growing in soil or water with very high concentrations of the metal).
