From Proto-Celtic *talskos, from earlier *talkskos, from Proto-Indo-European *tl̥k-s-ḱos, from *telk- (“to thrust, strike”)[1]. Cognate with Proto-Slavic *telťi (“to pound”), Lithuanian ti̇̀lkti (“to be tame”).
