Derived from *manō (“mane, neck”) with *-kô, a suffix used for body parts; compare Proto-Germanic *kelkô (“jaw-bone”), *leuskô (“groin”) for formations with similar morphology. Cognate with Proto-Celtic *mongā (“mane”).[1]
