Etymology

Compound of rots (“rock”) and oord (“place”). Named after a former mansion, the name of which is a double pun: the mansion's walls were covered in place brick, thus giving the edifice a rocky exterior (from whence rots), while the builder and owner of the mansion was called Adriaan van Oort (from whence oord).
