From the S handshape, referring to the initial of the English Seattle in a configuration evocative of the Space Needle, a major landmark and a well-known symbol of Seattle.

  • This one-handed ASL sign is produced as follows:
    1. Posture the dominant hand in the “S” handshape a few inches in front of the shoulder, palm facing forward.
    2. Hold the hand still briefly.
    3. Move the hand a few inches from side to side.
    4. Hold the hand still briefly.
