Etymology
Of uncertain origin. Possibly from a Turkic language; compare Turkish çatı (“roof, framework”), Azerbaijani çatu (“rope”), Uzbek чат (chat, “rib”). Alternatively, a back-formation from csatol (“to fasten”).
