From Proto-Celtic *dedmi-, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰh₁-dʰmó-s, from *dʰeh₁- (“to do, put, place”). Cognate with Ancient Greek θεσμός (thesmós, “law, ordinance”).[1][2]
