Inherited from Prakrit 𑀮𑁂𑀇 (lei), adapted from 𑀮𑀳𑀇 (lahaï) by analogy with 𑀤𑁂𑀇 (dei, “give”) (whence देना (denā, “to give”)), 𑀡𑁂𑀇 (ṇei, “take”),[1][2] from Sanskrit लभते (labhate). Cognate with Nepali लिनु (linu).
