From Proto-Vietic *ɗoh, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *pɗuh ~ *pɗuəh ~ *pɗiəs. Cognate with Khmer ផ្ទុះ (phtuh, “to explode”), Bahnar pơđôh (“to explode”), Pacoh padóh (“to explode”).
